My book teaches you to play in reality, not Fantasyland.
And still MORE about the craps Buy bet.  So, how do you make a craps Buy bet?  Simply drop your chips on the table layout when
you have the dealer's attention and then tell him to "buy" whatever number you want to buy.  Then, the dealer picks up your chips and
puts them in the point number box in a position that matches your position at the table (each player at the table has a specific position
that corresponds to the position of the chips on the table).  The dealer then puts a "BUY" button on top of your chips to make it clear to
the boxman, pit crew, and eye-in-the-sky that the bet is a Buy bet instead of a Place craps bet.

Some dealers make Buy
craps bets instead of Placing it when it's best for the player (the player is inexperienced and doesn't even
know what a Buy bet is).  Let's assume some other player near you makes a $25 Place craps bet on the 4.  You see the dealer move
the guy's $25 chip into the 4 box and he puts a "BUY" button on it.  The player doesn't realize that the dealer made a Buy craps bet
instead of a Place bet, but it's the right thing to do--the dealer is looking out for the inexperienced player.  If a 4 appears and the bet
wins, the player wins $49 for the Buy bet instead of only $45 for the Place craps bet.

The best craps Buy bet is always on the numbers 10 and 4.  But it can also be good for the numbers 9 and 5 if the casino lets you pay
the vigorish after you win the bet instead of when you make the bet.  Let's assume you make a $50 Place craps bet on the 9 which has
Place odds of 7:5 (that means, for a $50 bet, you would win $70).  Let's now assume you make a $50 Buy craps bet instead of the
Place craps bet.  When you win the bet, you pay a $2 vigorish to get the true odds, which are 3:2.  Therefore, for a $50 Buy bet on the
number 9, you win $75 and you then have to pay a $2 vigorish, and this results in a net win of $73.  The winning $50 Place craps bet
nets you only $70, but the winning $50 Buy craps bet nets you $73.  It's obvious that the better bet is the Buy bet because you net
more when you win.

A craps Buy bet isn't a wise bet for the numbers 8 and 6.  Instead of Buying the 6 or 8, you should always Place them.  Place craps
bets on the 8 or 6 are made in multiples of $6 because of the 7:6 odds that the Place bet gives.  Buy craps bets on the numbers 8 or 6
are made in multiples of $5 because of the true odds, which are 6:5.  Let's assume you make a $96 Place craps bet on the number 8
and you win the bet.  That means you win $112.  Now, let's assume you make a $95 Buy craps bet on the number 8 and pay a $5
vigorish to get true odds.  For the $95 Buy craps bet on the 8, you win $114, but you must pay the $5 vig, which results in a net win of
only $109.  The winning $96 Place bet nets you $112, and the winning $95 Buy bet nets you only $109.  It's easy to see that Place
craps betting the numbers 8 and 6 is better than Buy betting the 8 and 6 because your net win with a Place bet is more than your net
win with the Buy bet.
