Play smart...learn how to play casino craps the right way!
Remember, learn how to play casino craps the right way!
My book teaches you to play in reality, not Fantasyland.
Let's talk a little bit about the craps Buy bet.  All parts of the craps Buy bet are identical to the craps Place bet except for the
following: 1) A craps Buy bet pays
you off at true odds (not casino odds), 2) You have to pay a vig to get true odds, and 3) your chips
for a
craps Buy bet are located on the craps table layout differently than the craps Place bet.

The
casino wants to make a profit so they're not going to give you true odds for free unless you make a true Odds bet added to your
Pass Line craps bet.  The true "Free Odds" craps bet on your Pass Line bet is "free" because you don't have to pay a vig.  So, you
might be wondering how the casino makes money if it pays off a craps Buy bet at true odds (i.e., true odds means
the casino doesn't
have a
built-in casino advantage).  The casino taxes you!  Yes, a freaking tax!  You have to pay a tax to get true odds.  This 5% tax is
called a
"vig" or "vigorish."

When the modern craps table layout was invented about 100 years ago, the layout allowed the gambling e
stablishments to offer bets
that were
better for the player for a 5% fee.  The extra 5% fee brought in so much money that the casinos soon referred to it as adding
vigor to their profits.  That's where the term "vigorish" came from.  Today, the vigorish is still 5%.

Craps Buy bets on the 10 and 4 are better than craps Place bet
s on the 10 and 4.  Buy bets on the 9 and 5 are sometimes better than
Place betting the
9 and 5, depending on when you have to pay the vigorish (i.e., you pay the vig either when you make the bet or after
you win the bet).  Place betting the 8 and 6 are always better than Buying them.
So, remember, Buy bets on the 10 and 4 are always
better than Placing the 10 and 4.

Let's look at how the Buy bet on 10 and 4 is better than Place betting the 10 and 4.  Let's assume you make a $10 Place craps bet on
the 10 where the Place odds are 9:5.
The Place odds of 9:5 means you win $18 for your $10 bet.  Now, instead of a Place craps bet
on the 10, let's assume you make a $10 Buy craps bet and pay a $1 vigorish to get true odds
(true odds are 2:1, which are better for
the player than the Place odds of only 9:5)
.  For a winning $10 Buy craps bet on the 10, you win $20 (with odds of 2:1) but you have to
pay the $1 vigorish, which
makes your net winnings for the bet at $19.  Comparing the net results of the two craps bets, a winning $10
Place bet on the number 10 gets you $18, and a winning $10 Buy bet gets you $19.  So, in this example of making a $10 bet on the
number 10, you can see it's better to Buy the 10 instead of Placing it because, when you win, you'll get $19 with the Buy bet and only
$18 with the Place bet.
Craps rules are easy, so don't fear the game.
